Prawns Ideas Tips and Tricks

Prawns Tips and tricks

Grilling prawns is a delicious way to enjoy seafood, and barbecue prawns are a popular choice for many. Here are some tips to help you achieve perfectly cooked and flavourful barbecue prawns:

Australian wild caught prawns

Select fresh, high-quality prawns. Look for ones that are firm, translucent, and have a mild scent of the sea.

Prepare and clean

Peel and devein the prawns, leaving the tails intact for easier handling.

Rinse the prawns under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels to ensure they cook evenly.

Marinate with our Alaskan Rub

Marinate the prawns to enhance their flavour.

Allow the prawns to marinate for at least 15-30 minutes before grilling.

Preheat BBQ

Make sure your barbecue is clean and preheated to a medium-high heat. This helps prevent sticking and ensures even cooking

If you don't have a hotplate use bbq skewers

Thread the prawns onto skewers to make flipping them easier. This also prevents smaller prawns from falling through the grill grates.

Oil or Lemon Rub the grill grates

Brush the grill grates with a bit of oil or a lemon cut in have before placing the prawns on them. This helps prevent sticking

Cooking Time

Prawns cook quickly, usually 2-3 minutes per side, depending on their size. Overcooking can lead to a rubbery texture, so keep a close eye on them

Dont walk away

Prawns are done when they turn opaque and have a pinkish color. Be careful not to overcook, as they can become tough

Basting

Baste the prawns with the marinade or a mixture of melted butter and herbs during the barbecue to keep them moist and add extra flavour.

Serve as soon as they are ready

Prawns are best enjoyed right off the grill. Serve them hot with additional lemon wedges or a dipping sauce.

Experiment with flavours

Get creative with your marinades and try different flavour combinations to find your favourite. Citrus, garlic, chilli and herbs work well with prawns.
